Rising from the heart of the Indonesian archipelago Sumatra and the Mentawai Islands form one of Southeast Asia’s last true frontiers — where raw nature, ancient spirit, and oceanic rhythm still move as one. With its volcanic highlands, mist-draped jungles, and coral-ringed islands, this region holds a rare sense of unfiltered vitality. Home to deeply rooted Indigenous traditions and a culture shaped by the sea, Sumatra invites travelers to reconnect with the essence of simplicity and wildness. From the emerald rainforests of the interior to the turquoise shores of the Mentawai Islands, each landscape tells a story of coexistence — between humanity and the natural world, between tradition and tide. The Mentawai people, known for their artistry, reverence for nature, and ancestral tattoos, embody a rhythm of life that feels timeless. With an abundance of biodiversity, surf, and soul, this region offers more than adventure — it offers remembrance. A return to what is real, elemental, and alive.

Fly into Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) or Singapore — both major international hubs with frequent low-cost connections. From there, take a short 1-hour flight to Medan, Sumatra (KNO – Kualanamu International Airport) on airlines such as AirAsia, Batik Air, or Citilink. (This is typically the most affordable and efficient route — roundtrip flights from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore to Medan often cost under $100 USD. Airport pickup in Medan is included in the retreat cost.) You can also choose to fly directly to Medan from select international airports, though these routes are often more expensive and less frequent.
